So today’s International Podcast Day, and I thought, why don't I do a video about why I, Ken, your host [points slyly], made By the Fire Podcast!
So, the reason why I did it was last year, during lockdown, you know, I came across a podcast and I thought ‘oh this is really good’ and I won't say their name but really good content about mythology and literature. And I just know, okay, this is interesting – I’m hearing things from Europe. I'm hearing things from East Asia, some things from the South as well. But then I thought, wait a minute, there's one massive continent that's missing. [gives the look] You wanna guess what it is? [points to African shaped earrings] What are the odds? Yes, Africa and the Caribbean.
So I thought hmm, there's no way there's no footage, no information about mythology and spiritual- spirituality from the Black diaspora. Like come on now. So, I just thought why don't I not exactly be the first- I thought I was the first, but turns out there was so many people doing this already, which is amazing.
Um, so, this is why I made the podcast. I just wanted to see what's out there. Let the world know in a short succinct way, and you know, since then it's been really great. There is stuff out there. I just think they need to be more work done to make sure that people know about it, so that, you know, it's not something that's overlooked because the content, the information is so rich, but... for some reason, it keeps getting ignored in dialogues.
